SPECIAL ISSUE: THE SPANISH GARAGE REVIVAL BANDS (I)

At FM station 92.5 of Spanish band, Studio92 there is a contest for the best garage band launched for the first time in 2007. This is just an example of the Spanish revival garage's health. But the revival started more than 20 years ago, or, if you want, Spanish garage music never ended, although late 70s and early 80s were dominated by other music styles, such as punk, "movida madrileña", and more.
In this issue I propose a short travel by few bands that had, and has, garage music (more or less pure) in their blood. I do not try to launch a lesson, of course; nor make a complete review. I am just trying to show you how the Spanish garage revival bands (even close to Mods, and others) are making an enrichment of the Spanish music since late 80s
.

1. Doctor Explosion - Y.M.C.A (download), from EP Tired of Waiting (1994). The reference for much people interesting in the Spanish garage revival. A long history behind, and a successfull career since 20 years ago.

3. Cooper. Artistic name of Alejandro Díez, leader of "Los Flechazos", from León.

Download COOPER featuring CARLO COUPE - FLEA MARKET

4. The Phantom Keys. Pure garage sixties from Galicia. The Seeds, The Standells and the British invasion are their landmarks. Good music from 2005 to today.

5. Los Imposibles. From Madrid since late 80s. They started wiht "hoo haa!" in 1991, and followed with "Marigold garden", and "En el pais del niño mosca", a jewel view as one of the best Spanish pop music for much people. Finally, they recorded "Party a go-go".

Download "Mind the gap" from "hoo haa!"

6. Fortune Tellers. Disbanded from February 13, 2010, after a concert in la Sala Sol (Madrid). Very good garagesters.
Download "Take me back"

7. Cardiacos. Another good pop band from León. After 30 years, they are still playing.

Download "Te vas a enterar" (From "Sus mejores latidos", 1998), a cover of "You really got me", by The Kinks

8. The Sweet Vandals. Not exactly a garaged band, but some songs remember me tunes close to this. Near to the funk, they impresive vocals (Maika Edjo) and their fresh rythm is something for what we must give thanks, really! They have just two LP: "The Sweet vandals" (2007), and "Lovelite" (2009).

Download cover Papa's Got a Brand New Bag (James Brwon,1965)

9. Elephant Band. Mods from Galicia. May be the best mod band in these lands. Enjoy this jewel from their Lp "Fábrica de chocolate"

Download "Falling leaves"
